What the papers got wrong
I don’t dispute what I did. These are the things that were printed about it that aren’t true.
Convicted of importing 3.69 tonnes of cannabis
I was acquitted of importing cannabis. After my complaint to the press regulator IPSO, the Telegraph corrected Boris Johnson's column and its news report.
A nine-year sentence
The sentence was ten years, handed down at St Albans Crown Court on 12 July 2016.
Jailed in 2014
I was arrested in February 2015 and sentenced in July 2016.
A 3.6-ton cargo of cocaine and cannabis
The cannabis was a separate charge, and I was acquitted of it.
Importing cocaine and cannabis from Spain
I was convicted of conspiracy to supply cocaine, not of importing anything.
Drug lord, kingpin, running a £5.2m drug gang
At sentence the judge found my role was significant, not leading. The £5.2m figure included the cannabis I was acquitted of.
